When garbage disposals stop working there are a couple things that can be attempted to try and resolve the issue:
1) Turn on the switch. If it does not make any sound, turn the switch back off and open the cabinet doors under the sink. Locate the reset button on the bottom of the disposal (on the underside) and press in. If successful, once you turn the switch back on, the disposal will start to spin and the issue has been resolved.
2) If the disposal starts is making a "humming" noise instead of spinning that means something is blocking the blades. Turn the switch back off and get a flashlight to look inside the disposal for any debris. If there is anything you can visually see then it will need to be removed; try using a vacuum to suck it out and if you are unable to remove it you will need to use a tool to manually turn the disposal. Locate the hole on the bottom of the disposal (usually in the center) and insert an alan wrench. Turn the wrench back and forth until it starts to turn freely and then use the vacuum to suck up any debris, flip the switch again and the issue should be resolved.
